Costs and Consultations

Costs of legal services

Fees for legal services are usually paid on an hourly basis, coupled with a legal retainer. The retainer creates the legal relationship between the professional and the client, establishes agreed upon fees and sets the basis for the legal services to be provided. My current legal fee
is $200.00 per hour. Retainers vary with the nature and complexity of the case. A retainer is a prepayment for legal services, and may be required to be replenished as used until the case is completed. Elsewhere on this site I have information about how legal fees are charged, and things one may do to help hold down those expenses.

Initial Consultation

I provide a free initial consultation to discuss the merits of any particular case. At this time I can learn more about your concerns, and can sometimes provide an estimate as to how much any particular matter may cost. This is a difficult thing to estimate because there are so many factors that make a difference in how much time is required to complete a task. Fro example, some people come into the process in agreement with each other, and may have limited assets and issues, which may allow for a more simple settlement.

Family issues, however, are more occur amidst intense emotions which must be addressed before they can begin to work effectively on resolving issues. They may have a long term marriage with complex property issues, or other issues that may need to be addressed before the process can begin. Estimates of cost may still be given, but they may include a wider range
of possibilities.

My commitment to my clients is to listen to your concerns and help you create a process that
will allow you and spouse to have the primary control over how things get resolved.

The commitment of collaborative practice is to support parties in resolving issues at the highest level of personal functioning. We can help parties create a process that allows healing to take place, for clients, spouses, children and families. This process works when parties are dedicated to making it work.
